Hi, I'm Gbenga.
THE UPCYCLE ARTIST
I'm an artist obsessed about transformations. I craft sculptures from PET plastic waste, using heat-blowing tools and pyrography to create unique pieces that tell stories. My process is a blend of traditional sculpture techniques like working with paper clay, epoxy, and resin coupled with hands-on methods such as drawing, painting, wire weaving, welding, and carving. I love working with materials like PET plastic, mostly from water bottles, acrylic sheets, copper wires, and steel, all of which helps my imagination come alive. Many of my works are made from community-donated waste, a part of my process that is intimate and meaningful. After earning my bachelor’s degree in Fine and Applied Art and completing several apprenticeships, I shifted my focus to creating sustainable sculptures inspired by a powerful encounter with plastic pollution and an eye-opening article. My sculptures have been showcased in exhibitions around the world and featured in various publications. Through my TEDx talk, merchandise, and exhibitions, I aim to inspire a positive, reward driven shift in awareness and perspective.
